The Southern States are threatening to secede if Mr. Lincoln takes office on March 4, 1861 because of his position on slavery. Mr. Lincoln says that seceding is unlawful and will fight to keep the United States together, even if his own life has to be sacrificed. The Southern States promptly secede. The Civil War begins.

Through the war and tragedies in the family, Mr. Lincoln must persevere through his sorrows. The Civil War is finally won, and to celebrate, the Lincolns attend the theatre.
