Tess is happy. She considers herself the luckiest person on the planet to be the adopted daughter of Abraham Lincoln. Orphaned at a young age, Tess doesn’t have much from her parents besides a few photographs and knickknacks. Tess is courageous and determined, but has a kind heart. Of course, their mother tries to keep them straight. No one can cook up a better meal or have more fashionable clothes than Mary Todd Lincoln! And no one can show love quite like her, either. And, of course, there’s Abraham Lincoln, a small town country lawyer. A loving father, he always has time to listen to Tess’s problems. He dotes on the children and is the best storyteller in town. And there’s always their loyal mutt, Fido, to round out the mix!
The Lincoln family finds themselves on a new adventure when Mr. Lincoln is elected the sixteenth President of the United States! Tess is thrilled beyond words, but the family’s excitement is dampened by the dark clouds looming on the horizon. The United States is divided over the issue of slavery. The Southern States are threatening to secede if Mr. Lincoln takes office on March 4, 1861 because of his position on slavery. Mr. Lincoln says that seceding is unlawful and will fight to keep the United States together, even if his own life has to be sacrificed. The Southern States promptly secede. The Civil War begins.
Through the war and tragedies in the family, Mr. Lincoln must persevere through his sorrows. The Civil War is finally won, and to celebrate, the Lincolns attend the theatre. But everything suddenly changes when they hear the sound of a gunshot. The Teresa Lincoln Series takes you on a journey through the eyes of Abraham Lincoln’s adopted daughter.
